Ingrid Turinawe Launches Bid for Rukungiri Municipality MP Seat, Vows to Be Voice for the Voiceless

Prominent opposition figure and long-time political activist Ingrid Turinawe has officially declared her intention to contest for the Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary seat, promising to champion the voices of the “voiceless” and deliver effective representation.

Speaking shortly after expressing intention for the Rukungiri seat at the headquarters of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) on Katonga Road, Turinawe said her decision was backed by overwhelming support from the people of Rukungiri, who she says see hope and leadership in her.

“I came with a team of religious leaders, both Christian and Muslim, local leaders from Rukungiri Municipality, my family and in-laws, youth, the Women’s League, and even students led by Karunji Gloria a student I sponsored since P7 now pursuing a master’s degree,” Turinawe said.

She noted that despite not holding public office, she has continued to serve and support the people of Rukungiri, and now they have decided it’s time she represents them formally in Parliament.

“The people have taken a decision that I am their voice. They need someone who understands their issues and can speak boldly for them. That’s why we’re here,” she added.

Turinawe reaffirmed her commitment to her party’s values and expressed confidence in its leadership. While acknowledging the current lack of formal electoral structures and time constraints, she said she is prepared to abide by whatever decisions are taken by the party’s top leadership.

“We believe in our party, we trust our leaders, and we believe in our constitution. We are aware of the process ahead and are ready to follow whatever decision our leaders will take,” she said.

Turinawe, who has long been a fixture in Uganda’s opposition politics and a former senior figure in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), is making her latest political move under the PFF flag.
