UPC Sets Stage for 2026 Comeback with Revised Election Roadmap

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has unveiled a revised internal election roadmap as it gears up for the 2026 general elections, signalling a renewed push to strengthen grassroots structures and reclaim political relevance.

The roadmap was officially announced by Faizo Muzeyi, the party’s Head of Media and Communications, who said the updates reflect the party’s commitment to a transparent and inclusive internal democratic process.

The schedule, which outlines timelines for the election of party structures, nomination of candidates, and primary elections, follows the launch of structure renewal exercises that began in the Lango Sub-region earlier this month. Muzeyi confirmed that the process is now being rolled out in other sub-regions including Acholi, West Nile, Teso, and Karamoja.

“This roadmap marks UPC’s continued journey toward internal organisation, strengthening our leadership structures and preparing to offer the country a credible alternative in 2026,” Muzeyi said.

According to the updated roadmap, UPC will hold branch elections up to July 13, followed by the election of district and city executives on July 28, when presidential aspirants will also be nominated. District-level results will be declared at the party’s Kampala headquarters on July 30, while the party’s Annual Delegates Conference is expected to take place in August.

UPC will also conduct primary elections for parliamentary and local government positions between August 8 and 10, with official flag bearers to be announced on August 11. Nomination forms for interested candidates will be available from July 10 to 15. The party will accept petitions arising from the primaries between August 12 and 16.

Muzeyi acknowledged that logistical challenges had prompted changes to the original schedule but assured members that the Electoral Commission remains fully committed to delivering a fair and effective process. He encouraged UPC members across the country to participate actively in the ongoing activities.
