Speaking shortly after being nominated to contest in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries, Hudu decried the rising levels of joblessness in the country, noting that the youth in his constituency were among the worst affected.

“We are facing a huge challenge of joblessness in the country, and Northern Division is not an exception,” Hudu said. “My focus will be on the local economy—supporting skill-based training and entrepreneurship for young people.”

He outlined a plan to empower unskilled youth through short-term, hands-on training programs that don’t require high academic qualifications. “You don’t need a Senior Six or even a degree to learn how to make bread or ice cream. Skill-based training requires one or two months and your head to focus,” he noted.

Hudu, who resigned from his RCC position to join elective politics, cited poor leadership in the constituency as his motivation to run. “I shudder at the level of leadership that has been so far exhibited in my constituency,” he said. “It is out of that pain that I decided to resign and contest to help the President, but most importantly, the people.”

He stressed that boosting the local economy would, in turn, uplift the national economy. “We need to be creative in getting our people out of poverty,” Hudu said. “My focus is to guide them on how to start small businesses and become self-reliant.”

The seat is currently held by NRM’s Seth Wambede Kizangi, and Hudu’s challenge sets the stage for a potentially fierce contest in the party primaries.

“I am ready to carry the burden of my people on my shoulders,” Hudu declared as he launched his bid to represent the division in the 12th Parliament.
