Family Speaks Out Quashes False Claims Surrounding Dr. Kiggundu’s Death

The family of the late Dr. John Spire Kiggundu has spoken out to address and refute widespread misinformation surrounding his sudden passing earlier this week.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Kiggundu’s brother, academic and social media activist Dr. Jim Spire Ssentongo, dismissed claims circulating on social media that his brother had been kidnapped, murdered, or linked to politically motivated violence.

“These claims are false and deeply hurtful, especially to the grieving family,” Sentongo wrote. “Dr. Kiggundu was not shot, abducted, or targeted. The postmortem confirmed that he died of a heart attack, and his body was discovered a day later.”

He further clarified that Dr. Kiggundu had no business dealings with Buganda Kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga, contrary to speculation online. He said the only known association was when Dr. Kiggundu invited Owek. Mayiga as chief guest at the 2020 launch of Henrob Hospital a facility the late doctor built from the ground up over two decades.

Henrob Hospital, located in Wakiso, was named after Dr. Kiggundu’s sons, Henry and Robert, and is widely seen as a testament to his dedication to community healthcare.

“This is a man who rose from running a one-room clinic in 2003 to establishing a full-fledged hospital. Let us honour his legacy by rejecting harmful rumours and allowing him to rest in peace,” Sentongo added.

The family has urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information and to respect their privacy as they mourn their loss.
