The Ministry of Health has dismissed recent social media reports suggesting a resurgence of COVID-19 in Uganda, clarifying that the claims are based on outdated clips being circulated by individuals with the intent to mislead the public.
In a press release issued on Wednesday 11th May, Dr. Charles Olaro, the Director General of Health Services, assured Ugandans that the national COVID-19 situation remains stable and fully under control, with no indication of a new outbreak since the country emerged from the major pandemic three years ago.

“The Ministry reassures the public that there is no resurgence of COVID-19 in Uganda,” the statement reads. “The national situation remains stable, and we continue to monitor trends to ensure early detection and prompt response.”
The ministry attributes the spread of misinformation to “unscrupulous individuals” re-sharing old video clips, which has sparked public concern.
Dr. Olaro emphasized that Uganda’s surveillance and response systems are still robust, fully active, and capable of identifying and containing any public health threats. He also noted that the ministry continues to monitor developments related to new strains of COVID-19 being reported in other parts of the world.
