According to a statement, the ministry’s In-House Construction Team will begin processing surface bottlenecks in the area starting this weekend. The repairs are aimed at paving the way for a new asphalt overlay to improve road quality and traffic flow.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving through Mabira, as heavy equipment will be in operation,” the advisory reads in part.
To ensure smoother operations and reduce congestion, the ministry announced several temporary traffic diversions. Trucks traveling to or from Jinja have been directed to use the Wantoni/Mukono–Katosi–Njeru route. Light vehicles are encouraged to take the Njeru–Bukoloto–Nagalama–Kalagi–Gayaza road as an alternative.
The ministry clarified that all proposed routes are paved and motorable. Motorists are also reminded to adhere to posted speed limits and follow traffic control personnel instructions.
“These measures are necessary to ensure the safety of road users and the efficient execution of the works,” said the ministry.
The Kampala–Jinja highway is a vital economic corridor for Uganda and the East African region, connecting key commercial towns and supporting the movement of goods and services. The ongoing works are expected to ease traffic flow and improve travel safety upon completion.
