Addressing journalists on Wednesday at party headquarters at Uganda house, UPC spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat reminded party supporters that the Independent Electoral Commission began nominating SIG candidates including representatives of Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, and the Youth on Monday, June 2. The nomination exercise runs until June 10, while elections for Village SIG Committees are scheduled between June 16 and 19.

“We want to thank our members who have already responded to the nomination exercise,” Arach said. “All our flag bearers who have not yet picked nomination forms are urged to do so from the designated IEC offices across the country.”

She encouraged party aspirants to properly complete their forms, secure endorsements from district party registrars, and return them promptly for nomination. “UPC is hopeful to win the majority of SIG seats,” she added.

Relatedly, Arach announced that UPC will commence its internal elections for Party Village Executive Committees on June 12, starting in the Lango Sub-region. The process will eventually cover the rest of the country.

“This exercise will be conducted sub-region by sub-region and will lead the party to elections of Parish, Sub-county, Constituency, and District/City Executives, in line with our roadmap,” Arach explained.

The UPC spokesperson called on all party members to mobilize extensively and ensure a strong presence at the grassroots level. “We encourage our entire membership to prepare and participate in these upcoming elections,” she said.
