According to a press statement from the Uganda Police Force, the incident occurred at around 5:00 PM on June 2, 2025. The soldiers, who were reportedly part of the Presidential Taskforce on Land Matters and Environment, arrived in a green minibus (registration UBG 041U) and a Toyota Noah (registration UBR 647B).
Police say the soldiers aggressively demanded that the Division Police Commander (DPC) intervene in an eviction exercise concerning a contested piece of land. The DPC refused, citing the absence of a court order and the non-involvement of the district security committee a requirement in such matters.
The refusal reportedly angered the soldiers, who then turned confrontational. Fellow police officers quickly intervened, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that forced the UPDF personnel to retreat.
The suspects were later tracked and arrested by a joint operation involving officers from Kampala Metropolitan North Region and the UPDF at Yesu Amala in Wakiso District. They are currently in custody pending disciplinary proceedings.
