The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt Hon. Richard Todwong, has urged local leaders to take a hands-on role in promoting economic transformation by mobilizing their communities to embrace income-generating ventures.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony organized by Hon. Nancy Acora Odonga, the Lamwo District Woman MP, in Padibe Town Council, Todwong emphasized that leadership should go beyond words and translate into practical economic guidance for the benefit of the people.

“Let’s go beyond politics and start helping our people understand how to create wealth. Leaders should encourage their communities to start businesses and engage in productive economic activities,” Todwong said.
While highlighting the government’s continued investment in infrastructure such as roads and electricity, he reminded the public that it was up to them to use these opportunities to their advantage.
“You love the party and it loves you back, but love alone is not enough. People don’t eat political parties. The roads we build should be seen as business opportunities—like this main road to the South Sudan border, which can be turned into a trade corridor,” he noted.
Turning to party affairs, Todwong called for inclusivity within the NRM, stressing the need for unity ahead of the 2026 general elections. He urged long-time party supporters to warmly welcome new members joining the ruling party.
“We don’t discriminate in the NRM. I urge older members to receive the new ones with open arms. Let’s not allow the upcoming elections to divide us,” he said.
Hon. Nancy Acora Odonga, while addressing the gathering, thanked the people of Lamwo for the trust placed in her leadership. She also appealed for peaceful political engagement as the country gears up for elections.
“There is no price I can attach to the trust you’ve given me. I can only pray that God blesses you. As we approach the next election, let’s keep peace. God appoints leaders; we only play our part,” she said.

Also present was Hon. Margaret Lamwaka Odwa, MP for Chua East, who expressed gratitude to Todwong for his efforts in facilitating the working relationship between her and the party. She used the opportunity to criticize the opposition, accusing them of spreading divisive rhetoric.
“While we’re focused on development, some opposition leaders are inciting hatred. We urge our people to remain focused and continue supporting NRM and President Museveni,” she said.
The event was attended by party leaders, supporters, and local residents who pledged to rally behind the NRM’s message of peace, unity, and socio-economic development.
