The Multiparty Youth Forum (MYF) has strongly condemned the government’s recent proposal to restrict appointments to District and City Service Commissions to retired professionals, a move they dispute arguing that it unfairly targets youth who have already been unjustly accused as primary culprits of corruption.
In a media address on Friday 16th May hosted by the Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) at party headquarters in Najjanankumbi , the MYF leaders demanded evidence-backed research to authenticate these claims, calling the allegations “unjust” and “scapegoating.”

The Forum’s chairperson Lynnet Nanyonjo, posed a series of questions directed to the Directorate of Ethics and Integrity, challenging the narrative that the youth are key to blame for the rampant systematic corruptions in the country
“Who asks for money and other favours in exchange for government jobs? Is it the young people who are on theft charges for Iron Sheets (Mabaati) which were meant for the poor? Is it the young people who are grabbing land from the poor? Is it the young people issuing out land titles twice? Is it the young people diverting public funds and leaving our hospitals, schools and roads in despair? Is it the young people on corruption charges in Anti – Corruption Court?” asked Nanyonjo
Francis Adepo, National Youth Chairman of the FDC party , also retaliated MYF chairperson’s rant dismissing the corruption allegations as concocted research tailored deliberately to tarnish the young people’s credibility
“Everyone says that the Young people are the future of the country, Now, if you castigate and take them as the most corrupt, I think it is completely intentional to block the positive progress of this country, We shall not allow that, and as MYF, we shall really continue to speak to this in volumes and make sure that it doesn’t prosper and reach where the government wants it.” Adepo said
The MYF leadership also criticized the lack of public awareness campaigns for the upcoming Special Interest Groups (SIGs) elections, slated to begin in June 2025. Despite the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) roadmap, youth leaders noted insufficient sensitization efforts, particularly in rural areas where access to social media is limited.
Nankya Esther, Vice Chairperson of the National Youth Council and NRM Youth League member, emphasized the need for broader outreach. “Many young people don’t even know these elections are happening. The IEC must use local communication channels, not just Twitter and Facebook,” she urged.
Faizo Muzeyi, Secretary of MYF and UPC representative, echoed these concerns, stressing that the IEC’s focus on 2026 general elections has overshadowed the looming Special interest Group’s polls. “The youth constitute 70% of Uganda’s population. Ignoring their elections is ignoring the future, Right now what they are talking about is the local government, they are talking about parliamentary, they are talking about presidential, whose election is in January 2026 Yet, the elections of the youth are just next month, starting on 2nd to 10th June, by nominations of these village committees. And then elections will be starting from the 16th.” he said.
