In a statement issued yesterday 3rd May, the NRM national chairman directed party members to report to their respective village centres by 10:00 AM to take part in two important activities: confirming the authenticity of names in the NRM register and electing LCI flag-bearers as well as new village NRM structures.

Museveni emphasized the importance of these exercises to the party’s internal democracy, noting that both the register verification and elections must take place strictly between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The NRM Electoral Commission will oversee the process and provide detailed guidance.

Underscoring the significance of the day, Museveni confirmed that he would personally participate in the verification exercise in Rwakitura village, while the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni, will be involved in the same activity in Ntungamo Ireenga.

However, the President made it clear he will remain neutral during the elections: “I will not line behind any candidate for election because, as chairman of the NRM, I welcome any choice of our members. I cannot and should not, therefore, take sides.”

The decision to cancel a Cabinet meeting in favor of grassroots party mobilization highlights the weight Museveni places on internal party unity and participation as the NRM looks ahead to national political contests.
