The government has kicked off the construction of an access road to a new fertilizer plant in Kampiringisa, Mpigi District, signaling a major step toward agricultural independence and industrial growth.
Presiding over the launch, State Minister for Works Hon. Uganda currently spends over $300 million annually on imported fertilizer, while application remains worryingly low at just 1.5 to 2 kilograms per acre, far below the recommended 50 kilograms. The new plant is expected to bridge this gap by making fertilizer more accessible and affordable to Ugandan farmers.
Once completed, the plant will not only enhance agricultural productivity but also create jobs and contribute to food security marking a transformative step in Uganda’s journey toward a self-sustaining agricultural economy.
