Mrs. Jolly Kateregga Breaks Silence on Allegations by Prof. Badru Kateregga

Mrs. Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga, the embattled wife of Professor Badru Ddungu Kateregga, has come out publicly for the first time to address what she describes as “persistent false and malicious allegations” made against her by the founder of Kampala University.

In a strongly worded statement, Mrs. Kateregga denied claims that she assaulted or attempted to poison her husband, calling the allegations “deeply painful” and “completely unfounded.”

“I have endured emotional trauma, public ridicule, threats, and sleepless nights,” she said. “My only ‘crime’ is being a loyal wife, a mother, and a woman who loved deeply, worked hard, and stood by her family.”

The couple, whose relationship began in 2010 while Jolly was a student at Kampala University and married two years later, have three children together. She recalled how, despite resistance from her family due to their age difference, she committed herself to both her husband and the university, where she served in senior leadership as Director in charge of Finance, Marketing, and Budget.

Mrs. Kateregga credits her tenure with helping lift the institution from financial distress to becoming a multi-campus university. She further stated that she served not only as a professional at the university but also as a caregiver to Prof. Kateregga during numerous health complications.

She detailed how in September 2024, Prof. Kateregga left their home in Buziga, allegedly to visit older children, only to later accuse her of attempted poisoning claims that she said were disproven by toxicology reports. The professor also claimed he was physically assaulted, pointing to wounds she insists were from surgery to treat blood clots at IHK hospital.

“These were not injuries I inflicted,” she clarified, adding that investigations by the Police Criminal Investigations Department and the Director of Public Prosecutions found no criminal case against her, categorizing the matter as a family dispute.

Mrs. Kateregga also denied allegations that she held her husband hostage or restricted his communication. “During the period he claims to have been held incommunicado, he was publicly active, attending events, traveling, and giving speeches,” she noted.

Mrs. Kateregga claims that she was unlawfully removed from her position at Kampala University through what she described as forged signatures and illegal company registry changes. A forensic report dated 27th February 2025 allegedly confirmed her signature was forged.

She has since enlisted Kampala Associated Advocates to pursue legal action, including filing for child maintenance and challenging her removal from the university.

Despite the intense personal and legal battles, Mrs. Kateregga says she remains committed to pursuing justice through legal means. “I leave the rest to God and the courts of justice,” she said.

She called on the public, media, and institutions to avoid rushing to judgment and to consider the facts as they emerge. “I believe that in time, the truth will prevail and that I will be vindicated.”
