The deceased have been identified as an adult female and a juvenile female passenger. The 12 injured victims were rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for emergency treatment.

“Preliminary findings point to a tire burst as the cause of the crash,” said SP Kananura. “We urge all motorists to prioritize vehicle safety, especially checking tire conditions and expiry dates before beginning any journey.”

This tragic incident is a grim reminder of Uganda’s road safety challenges. In 2024 alone, 4,806 people lost their lives due to road crashes, according to the Annual Traffic Police Report. The majority of these fatalities were attributed to reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and speeding.

Authorities continue to urge road users to exercise caution and ensure that vehicles are roadworthy, as efforts to reduce the growing toll of road fatalities intensify.
