Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested 72 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting narcotic abuse, robbery, and other criminal activities across the city’s divisions.
The operations, according to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, are part of a sustained effort to restore public order and dismantle criminal networks in known black spots.
In the early hours of October 30, police teams under Wamala Police Post in Nansana Division, Wakiso District, carried out an operation that led to the arrest of eight suspects from Wamala Kasumba, Karanzi, Kinyarwanda, and Tabba sub-zones. The group was found with suspected narcotic substances and is set to face prosecution.
On October 31, between 12:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., another operation in Thailand, Katogo, and Kago zones of Kinawataka, Nakawa Division, led to the arrest of 16 suspects accused of unlawful possession of narcotics and public nuisance.

In Old Kampala Division, police conducted two major operations in Nakulabye and Kisenyi, targeting robbery gangs and narcotic users. Each operation netted 24 suspects, bringing the total arrests in the division to 48.
Authorities also recovered exhibits such as suspected narcotic substances and sharp weapons. All suspects are undergoing screening and will be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
As enforcement operations continue, police have also emphasized community engagement to prevent crime. On October 29, a community policing drive in Bulabira Kalitunsi, Najjera, sensitized residents on neighborhood watch, domestic violence, vigilance, and electoral offences.
Owoyesigyire commended residents and local leaders for their growing cooperation, noting that their participation is vital in combating urban crime.
“We encourage the public to remain alert and share credible intelligence with Police to maintain peace and security,” he said.
Police say the operations will continue across all divisions of the Kampala Metropolitan Area as part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety during the election season and beyond.
