According to EC spokesperson Julius Musinguzi, the forms collected include nomination papers, supporter forms, and guidelines for the nomination process. Of the 51 aspirants, six are women and 45 are men. Two picked the forms on behalf of political parties — the Conservative Party and the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) — while the remaining 49 intend to run as independents.
Musinguzi urged district authorities and the public to cooperate with the aspirants as they travel across the country to collect signatures of endorsement.
“They are doing work and seeking support that is constitutional and legal,” he said.
The law requires presidential aspirants to secure the signatures of at least 100 registered voters from two-thirds of all districts, translating to 98 districts nationwide. Other requirements, including proof of payment of the UGX 20 million nomination fee, evidence of academic qualifications, proof of citizenship, and confirmation on the national voters’ register, will be verified at the time of nomination.
Musinguzi explained that the EC adjusted the timelines for picking up forms to give aspirants sufficient time to traverse the country and collect the necessary endorsements.
The exercise, which began on Monday, August 11, will run until the last day of nominations on September 23–24, 2025.
