The arrests were made in three locations: 18 suspects were apprehended in Muchanga, 20 in Kajjansi, and 10 at Sanyu Brothel — a site already identified as a crime hotspot.
“Preliminary findings indicate that some of the youths, particularly in Muchanga, disguise themselves as bottle and dustbin collectors but take advantage of odd hours to rob residents and break into homes,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police recovered several housebreaking tools from the suspects, including two pliers, three testas, and three knives. The items have been secured as evidence, and statements have been recorded from both complainants and arresting officers.
The suspects, most of whom are between 17 and 23 years old, are currently detained at Bwebajja and Lubowa Police Stations as investigations continue. Authorities said the suspects will be arraigned in court once inquiries are complete.
The police emphasized their continued commitment to dismantling criminal networks and urged the public to report suspicious activity promptly to support ongoing crime prevention efforts.
