Police have declared a 20 million cash gratuity for whoever avails information leading to the arrest of suspects behind the shooting of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo’s vehicle and the killing of his bodyguard, Cpl Richard Muhumuza.
Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga confirmed the 20 million reward in a press briefing at police headquarters in Naguru.
Tuesday of last week witnessed an incident along Namungona, Zone 2, Kasubi Rubaga Division Kampala at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road at around 9 p.m., during which unidentified attackers riding a motorcycle shot bullets at Bugingo’s vehicle.
Speaking at police headquarters, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga appealed to whoever has information linking to the identity of the suspects, to pass the information to the Special Investive Unit in confidentiality.
He stated that getting their hands on the murder weapon is also a high priority.
Enanga affirms that there is a substantial 20 million cash reward for whoever avails credible information on this incident.
“There is aspokespersonial cash reward of shs20 million to whoever can lead us to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the killer weapon,” Enanga said.
Enanga also revealed that early findings suggest that the pistol used in Bugingo’s shooting incident is connected to another shooting last year where blogger Ismail Tusuubira, commonly known as Olaxxes was shot dead.
The police spokesperson also said that Kibuli’s Special Investigations Division of the Criminal Investigations Directorate has taken up the probe into the gunshot on Tuesday night.
“From now on wards, investigations into this incident will be carried out by Special Investigations Division of the CID at Kibuli,” Enanga said.
“We have put up a team to investigate the matter. They have obtained and continuing to obtain relevancy witness statements, got CCTV footage from main police CCTV cameras and private CCTVs, forensic and ballistic reports to aid in investigations.”
He however warned members of the public, especially on social media against coming up with all sorts of conspiracy theories about the shooting.
He said these theories hurt the feelings of relatives of the deceased and victims.
