The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has today carried out a full-scale emergency simulation exercise at Entebbe International Airport, aimed at testing the airport’s preparedness and coordination in responding to aviation-related emergencies.
The drill, which commenced at 1:09 PM on Friday, involved simulated smoke, fire, and full deployment of emergency response teams, including fire and rescue services, medical teams, and security agencies.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Vianney M. Luggya, Spokesperson of UCAA, said the exercise is a standard requirement under international civil aviation regulations and is conducted periodically to evaluate response protocols, coordination among stakeholders, and overall emergency readiness at the country’s main airport.
“This simulation is part of our commitment to safety and aligns with international best practices in aviation,” Mr. Luggya said. “We would like to assure the public and users of Entebbe International Airport that there is no cause for alarm. The smoke, fire, and emergency activity witnessed today is part of the planned drill.”
The UCAA noted that the full-scale simulation not only prepares emergency responders for real-life scenarios but also highlights areas for improvement in crisis management and communication. Key stakeholders including airport personnel, police, health services, and airline operators participated in the exercise.

Mr. Luggya emphasized that Entebbe International Airport remains fully operational and that the simulation was carefully planned to minimize disruption to normal airport activities.
