In a passionate appeal to bridge the energy gap, Minister of State for Information Communication Technology and National Guidance Owek. Hon. Joyce Nabosa Sebugwawo has launched Solar M7, a grassroots solar energy solution aimed at transforming the lives of off-grid households across Uganda and the African continent.
Speaking at the official brand launch and campaign roll-out ceremony in Kampala, Sebugwawo who co-founded the initiative alongside entrepreneurs Mr. Innocent Kawooya and Mr. Henry Lutwama described Solar M7 not just as a product, but a movement of empowerment, innovation, and inclusion.

“For far too long, many of our people especially women, children, and elders in remote villages have lived in darkness. Not by choice, but because they cannot afford electricity,” Sebugwawo said. “Solar M7 is our answer.”
The newly unveiled Solar M7 is a mobile, affordable, and powerful home solar kit designed to serve “last-mile households” those in rural or underserved communities who often live just beneath power lines but remain without access to electricity.
Sebugwawo shared that her journey with the project began when she tried to provide computers to rural schools but soon realized that many homes lacked even the most basic form of lighting. That insight led to the conception of a scalable, people-centered energy solution.
“This is not just a gadget,” she emphasized. “It is the start of a movement that will light homes, charge phones, enable schoolwork, and empower small businesses—even in the most remote locations.”
The Solar M7 brand promises to deliver what it calls “Seven Powerful Characteristics,” details of which will be elaborated during the upcoming campaign roll-out. The core idea, however, is to equip households with reliable, clean energy that supports education, communication, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
Besides the technical solution, Sebugwawo framed the launch as a call to action for development partners, donors, and governments across Africa.
“We must ensure that no child fails to study because of lack of light, no woman gives birth in total darkness, and no home is left behind,” she said. “With Solar M7, we are delivering not only energy but dignity, opportunity, and hope.”
