Leader of the Opposition (LOP) Joel Ssenyonyi has accused five Members of Parliament of fraudulently using his name to secure clearance for a two-week workshop in Mombasa, Kenya.
Ssenyonyi says the MPs Joyce Bagala, Juliet Kakande, Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, Richard Lumu, and Najjuma Sarah obtained an invitation from a Nairobi-based organisation, The Legislative Centre, falsely claiming that he would lead the delegation to the event scheduled for May 18–31, 2025.

The LOP says he was never consulted or informed about the trip. “They impersonated me to get this invitation,” he said. “One MP even handwrote their name onto the letter and they submitted it to the Speaker seeking facilitation for the trip.”
Ssenyonyi also questioned how Hon. Najjuma Sarah, a ruling NRM MP, ended up on an “Opposition delegation,” calling the move deceptive and dishonest.
Among the accused are former members of the now-defunct National Unity Platform (NUP) party, Joyce Bagala and Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, both of whom were recently disassociated from the party following internal disputes and a restructuring process. Their involvement in this controversy may further strain their political standing.

The invitation, dated March 12, outlines a workshop on inclusive leadership and governance for social equity. While it names the LOP as the team leader, Ssenyonyi insists he had no knowledge of the event.
Efforts to reach the accused MPs and office of the speaker of Parliament for comment were unsuccessful by press time.
